Who is eligible to use marine gas oil?

The commercial boating industry (including ferries, freight and inland waterways) is eligible to use marine gas oil and we also supply red HVO which falls under the same fuel duty.

Is marine gas oil the same as heavy fuel oil or diesel?

While often compared to diesel, marine gas oil has a slightly higher density than diesel which makes it more appropriate for marine vessels. Diesel/DERV is typically used for road vehicle applications while marine gas oil is used for marine and shipping applications.

What’s the difference between marine gas oil and heavy fuel oil?

Both are commonly used for marine applications but each have key differences. Heavy fuel oil has higher viscosity and density than marine gas oil which means it’s more resistance to flow. Marine gas oil on the other hand does not require heating to be stored on your vessel and has lower sulphur content which makes it the most common marine fuel as a result of regulatory changes in 2020.
